Paper wasp - Polistes humilis

Here we have a male and a female of this species in copula. Males in this subfamily have wings but the females are wingless and rely on the male for feeding and transport. The male is feeding the female with nectar prior to delivering her to a suitable location for egg laying.

As the common name implies, the Cerceris wasps in the family Crabronidae are parasitoids of weevils and other beetles. The family has a global distribution with 900 known species of which 50 are found in Australia.
